Legal paperwork for foreign couples

  • Nulla Osta (Certificate of No Impediment) — from your home country's consulate in Italy, valid 6 months.
  • Atto Notorio — sworn statement at an Italian consulate before traveling, OR at a court in Italy.
  • Sworn translations of all foreign documents into Italian.
  • Declaration of Intent at the local Comune (town hall) where you'll marry, at least 3 days before the ceremony.
  • Symbolic ceremonies have no legal requirements — many couples legally marry at home first, then do the Italian ceremony for celebration only.

How to pick a region

  • Lake Como — iconic, expensive, easy from Milan Malpensa. Best May–Sep.
  • Tuscany — best villa value, May–Jun and Sep–Oct ideal.
  • Amalfi Coast — logistically hardest (winding roads, no big buses), but unmatched views.
  • Puglia — best price-to-aesthetics ratio in 2026. Fly into Bari or Brindisi.
  • Florence — best for couples who want a city wedding with culture for guests.
