The legal costs nobody budgets for
- Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM). Must be lodged with your celebrant at least one month and no more than 18 months before the date.
- Celebrant fee. A$600–A$1,200 for ceremony, rehearsal and paperwork. Registry office ceremonies are cheaper but heavily booked.
- Official marriage certificate. Ordered separately from your state Births, Deaths & Marriages office — around A$60–A$70.
- Public land permits. Beach and council park ceremonies need a permit: A$100–A$500 depending on council.
How to get an Australian wedding under A$25,000
- Marry on a Friday or Sunday — most capital-city venues drop 20–30% off minimum spend.
- Choose winter (June–August) outside school holidays for the biggest supplier discounts.
- Cap the guest list at 70. Food and beverage is the single biggest lever in Australia.
- Pick a venue with a per-head package that includes staff, glassware and linen instead of a dry-hire space.
- Book a celebrant who bundles the rehearsal, rather than paying separately.
